SIGNA LOVE has received acclaim for her pleasing use of expression, beautiful lyric mezzo voice, and engaging stage presence. A native of Rothesay, New Brunswick, Signa has been heard as a soloist on Atlantic television, on CBC radio, with the Nova Scotia Youth Orchestra and in several recital series. Last fall, Signa was pleased to make her professional operatic debut in The Magic Flute with Opera New Brunswick. She was also invited to be the alto soloist in the Messiah at Trinity Church in Saint John. Signa will be singing Hansel with Maritime Concert Opera this October.
The singing actress recently performed title roles in L’Enfant et les sortilèges and Hansel and Gretel at the University of Toronto. She has also appeared as Polinesso in Handel’s Ariodante, and Third Lady in The Magic Flute with the direction of Stephen Ralls. Last summer, Signa sang the role of Mercedes in Carmen with Opera by Request. In the summer of 2008, she performed the title role in La Périchole at the Franco American Vocal Academy in France, under the baton of Clinton Smith. Other highlights include Mae Jones in Street Scene (Opera Nuova, Edmonton), Novizie in La Suor Angelica (Operafestival di Roma, Italy), Dinah in Trouble in Tahiti (Acadia University, NS). In June 2009, she graduated from the University of Toronto, with her Mus. M. in Opera, where she studied voice with Jean MacPhail. She was the recipient of a significant scholarship from the Canadian Scholarship Trust Fund in 2007, she had a fellowship guarantee from the University of Toronto and for 4 consecutive years received awards from artsnb (The New Brunswick Arts Board). She is currently the alto soloist with the Kingsway-Lambton Church Choir under the direction of Ruth Watson Henderson, and in 2007 she performed with the Concert Opera Group, directed by Darryl Edwards. Across North America and Europe, Signa has had the opportunity to work with renowned artists such as Suzanne Mentzer, Wendy Nielsen, Mark Oswald, William Lewis, Stuart Hamilton and Rosemarie Landry. |
